2010 Debut Author Challenge

I love this challenge and I am really looking foward to trying the challenge this year since I didn't do the 2009 one. I also love debut authors since they are people I can look foward to reading new books from and there writing style to me is usually different then those who have written books before.

In case you didn't know the objective is to read a goal of whatever YA or middle grade books in 2010.

I don't have a list yet since I haven't really been paying attention yet to books that come out next year and also don't have any books yet.

I did think of Two
Cinderalla Society
Princess For Hire

I promise to add more when I find some

Please Consider joining the challenge at The Story Siren. She has a whole bunch of really great things planned.

The Espressologist by Kristina Springer

What’s your drink of choice? Is it a small pumpkin spice latte? Then you’re lots of fun and a bit sassy. Or a medium americano? You prefer simplicity in life. Or perhaps it’s a small decaf soy sugar-free hazelnut caffe latte? Some might call you a yuppie. Seventeen-year-old barista Jane Turner has this theory that you can tell a lot about a person by their regular coffee drink. She scribbles it all down in a notebook and calls it Espressology. So it’s not a totally crazy idea when Jane starts hooking up some of her friends based on their coffee orders. Like her best friend, Em, a medium hot chocolate, and Cam, a toffee nut latte. But when her boss, Derek, gets wind of Jane’s Espressology, he makes it an in-store holiday promotion, promising customers their perfect matches for the price of their favorite coffee. Things are going better than Derek could ever have hoped, so why is Jane so freaked out? Does it have anything to do with Em dating Cam? She’s the one who set them up! She should be happy for them, right?
Review: This book was a really cute holiday book.
The plot was realy cute and kinda a typical romance book but was different because it had a setting and main idea ata coffehouse and matchmaking. I thought the plot was a little predicatble though.
The characters were really fun and relatable. Jane was a tpical girl you would want to be friends with. And the guys sounded fun and interesting.
Overall it was a cute holiday read. I would reccamend you read it since it short and cute
I am looking foward to other books Kristina Springer writes.

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.
Review: I liked this book but I had a few things that this reminded me of. Things like Twilight. I do not know why since there aren't any vampires or anything like that and they are like toatlly different but I was constantlly reminded of Twilight.
The plot was good. I was addicted to it. I was really entertained and wanted to keep reading. It was also kinda freaky and weird but in a good way that made me want to read it. The ending was really good the last 100 pages really were good.
The characters were okay and weird. Nora was good. Patch freaked me out. Vee was a weird best friend. The characters I was kinda confused on a few mainly the guy characters I thought there were one or two too many and got them confused.
Overall it was good

So Not Happening by Jenny B. Jones

New York's social darling just woke up in a nightmare: Oklahoma. Problem is, it's right where God wants her.
Bella Kirkwood had it all: A-list friends at her prestigious private school, Broadway in her backyard, and Daddy's MasterCard in her wallet. Then her father, a plastic surgeon to the stars, decided to trade her mother in for a newer model.
When Bella's mom falls in love with a man she met on the Internet--a factory worker with two bratty sons--Bella has to pack up and move in with her new family in Truman, Oklahoma. On a farm no less!
Forced to trade her uber-trendy NYC lifestyle for down-home charm, Bella feels like a pair of Rock & Republic jeans in a sea of Wranglers.
At least some of the people in her new high school are pretty cool. Especially the hunky football player who invites her to lunch. And maybe even the annoying--but kinda hot--editor of the school newspaper.
But before long, Bella smells something rotten in the town of Truman, and it's not just the cow pasture. With her savvy reporter's instincts, she is determined to find the story behind all the secrets.
How can a girl go on when her charmed life is gone and God appears to be giving her the total smackdown?
I honestly didn't expect much this. I thought it would just be another one the stories where a spoiled girl goes somewhere where she does not belong since it has been done many times before. But I was surprised when the book actually wasn't that bad.
The plot was interesting and was different. You would never think in the small town that they are in that there is a evil football brotherhood that is very dangerous. I loved the ending it was really good and puts an ending to the story and makes you want to read the next book in the series.
The characters: I thought they are a lot of characters. I was getting confused on who's who and why are they in the story. Bella was definetly a spoiled little girl and you tell. She was also a little whiny about everything like moving and school. I thought the characters were okay and not very relatable. Meaning someone I would want to hang around. Lindy I thought was trying to hard to be liked by Matt, And Matt was weird liking her since she was trying to impress him.
Overall it was okay with the character and the plot was good.

Liar by Justine Larbalestier

Micah will freely admit that she’s a compulsive liar, but that may be the one honest thing she’ll ever tell you. Over the years she’s duped her classmates, her teachers, and even her parents, and she’s always managed to stay one step ahead of her lies. That is, until her boyfriend dies under brutal circumstances and her dishonesty begins to catch up with her. But is it possible to tell the truth when lying comes as naturally as breathing? Taking readers deep into the psyche of a young woman who will say just about anything to convince them—and herself—that she’s finally come clean, Liar is a bone-chilling thriller that will have readers see-sawing between truths and lies right up to the end. Honestly.
I didn't really like this book. It was okay in the beggining but got worse and worse as the story went on.
The plot was really weird. The whole story was about Zach dying and her being and wolf and a very bad liar. I hated how it was told and the plaot was to me always saying the same thing over and over.
The characters I hated. Micah to me was naggy nad always saying how being a wolf was bad then later how it was good. Which really annoyed me.
The other characters were just as bad.
Her lying was annoying even though it was the whole point of the story.
I basicaly did not really like the story at. Which is weird since a lot of other people liked it.
